Patios de Cafayate Hotel & Winery
The Patios de Cafayate hotel is our preferred option for staying in the wine capital of Argentinas´ far north and what a lovely experience it is. This 32 room hotel is set in stunning gardens right next to the El Esteco Winery and in the middle of old vines. The original building, which dates back to 1892, offers guests a lovely colonial style with many leafy, interior courtyards, porticoes and arches.
The original building has been extended with a modern structure to include more facilities and rooms plus extensive gardens and a pool area, but only the trained eye could tell where old ends and new begins as the colonial style has been lovingly maintained throughout. The lounge, reception area, and restaurant are impeccable and stocked with period furniture and fittings. There is even a private chapel to confess your wine tasting excesses.
It is a real treat to wander the shady patios and porticoes, with a glass of wine in hand and admire the vines just across the gardens. The gardens themselves are beautifully manicured and the pool area is very nicely appointed – ideal for crashing out after an afternoon of wine tasting. Lunch al fresco at the hotel is great but for us, the evening is the best time to enjoy the restaurant, with plenty of atmosphere, a nice menu and of course an extensive wine list.
As you can see below there is always the chance of an extra guest while eating!

The staff is very attentive and friendly and we feel that all in all the value for money at the Patios de Cafayate hotel is top-notch. The common areas are our favorite places but as you can see above the rooms do not disappoint either.
The beds are very comfy and old colonial-style feel is produced by the fixtures and fittings, while several modern touches keep you comfortable, heat and air-con, flat-screen TV, safe, hair dryers and bathrobes are among these. Patios de Cafayate is an excellent choice while in the capital of the Northern Argentina wine region and can easily be combined with other wine regions in Argentina by plane or via an epic road trip from Salta to Mendoza.
