A very unusual winery hotel experience, and one we would love to share with you. Our local guides in Mendoza know the area like the back of their hands. They know the people, the wineries and the winery hotel options and here they have excelled with some extra special experiences.
You just wouldn’t stumble across this winery hotel, you have to know it is here. We arrived at the Lamadrid winery located in the heart of Lujan de Cuyo one sunny afternoon a couple of weeks ago and I was immediately taken with the place. My local operators had told me I would be staying at an intimate winery lodging but I did not expect what I found.
You can see two doors open in the photo above, that is how close you are to the winery. Not only are the rooms beautifully appointed, but the common areas, cellar, and tasting room are lovely also, and you are literally meters from where they create wine. At night you have a new twist on what we Brits call a “lock-in”!
The owners have taken the original family home, a traditional colonial style hacienda, and renovated and modernized while keeping the traditional charm of the original building. The rooms are really beautiful with high ceilings and period furniture, such as the huge wardrobes that characterize the epoch. The bathrooms maintain this classic style while having modern plumbing and fittings.

The garden, dining, and lounge areas are places you can kick back with a glass and read the huge coffee table wine books for hours. The tasting room and cellar are showcases of the Lamadrid and Durigutti lines and the wines themselves do not disappoint. During your stay, you will have a tour of the winery and try a premium tasting – from both tank and bottle.
During the day there are people coming and going making wine and you can people and production-watch, but at night the activity ceases and silence falls leaving you to enjoy the feeling that there is just yourself, and only one other possible room of guests plus the person looking after you left in the place. It is an unusual sensation and one I suspect is usually the privilege of winery owners or the very rich!
We have plenty of lodging options for your Mendoza wine tour, but none are more intimate and exclusive than this one. Combine a stay here with one right out in the countryside maybe. Ask us for all the options across the price ranges, but if you want to try something really unusual to use as your base for touring Lujan de Cuyo, let us include the Lamadrid Winery Inn for you.
